MACHIAS (AP) – A former teacher and coach at Lubec High School remains free while awaiting sentencing on three counts of unlawful sexual contact with teenage boys.
A Washington County Superior Court jury deliberated for nine hours over two days before returning a split verdict Thursday in which Gregory Maker, 43, of Trescott was acquitted of seven other charges involving the same three victims.
Maker, who now works as a lobsterman out of Cutler, was found guilty of one felony count and two misdemeanors and could face up to 71/2 years in prison. Sentencing was tentatively set for May 22.
Maker’s lawyer said the convictions will be appealed.
