LEWISTON – More than 528 bowlers joined the Child Health Center’s Big Brothers Big Sisters staff in raising more than $40,000 during Bowl For Kids Sake to benefit the Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Androscoggin County.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters, their Little Brothers and Little Sisters joined employees from local businesses, friends, colleagues and family to form teams of four. The teams went into the community and raised sponsorship money, which they took to Spare Time Recreation for a day of bowling. They supported more than 400 children in their community.

The two-day event was sponsored by 50 businesses. With the sponsorship money and the pledge money raised by the bowlers, Big Brothers Big Sisters was able to raise more than $40,000 during the Bowl For Kids Sake event.

The funds will be used to support the Androscoggin County area school-based matches in which students in the elementary and middle schools are matched with high school, and college students or an adult from the community. The matches meet an hour a week during the school year and offer the young people a positive role model and friend.

The funds also support community-based matches in Androscoggin County. The program offers an adult from the community the opportunity to meet with a young person age 5 to 12 for a minimum a six hours a month, sharing experiences in the community such as sports events, plays, movies or just time together.
