ORONO – Maine baseball team posted an easy 13-1 triumph over Thomas College.

The Black Bears tallied 13 unanswered runs, including a run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Mark Ostrander hit his first career home run, a solo shot to right field. Curt Smith finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while McGraw had three hits and scored twice.

Thomas’s lone run came in the bottom of the second inning when Jerry Randall hit an RBI single to score Jordan McDonald.

Bowdoin 11, Brandeis 3

WALTHAM, Mass. – Eight different players crossed the plate to lead Bowdoin to an 11-3 romp over Brandeis.

Bowdoin was paced by Chris McCann’s three hits and three RBIs, while Joe Berte went 2-4 with four RBIs. Will Waldrop allowed eight hits in six innings, walked three and fanned two to improve to 4-0.

Husson 5, Colby 4

BANGOR – Justin Spenc hit a two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Jason Harvey and Chad Lavway to give Husson a 5-4 victory over Colby.

Sean Brown hit an RBI single to get Husson on the board in the seventh inning. Spenc scored in the eight on a wild pitch, while Chris McInni hit an RBI single.

USM 13, UMass Boston 8

GORHAM – Joe Ganley went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored to lead Southern Maine to a 13-8 triumph over UMass-Boston.

Southern Maine (14-8, 5-2) broke the game open with three runs in both the seventh and eighth innings. Skeffington was 2-for-4, while knocking in two runs and scoring three times for Southern Maine. Chris Burleson collected the win on the mound, striking out 11, while improving to 3-0.

Maine 4, Colby 0

ORONO – Courtney Gingrich and Sarah Bennis combined to pitch a one-hit shutout as Maine defeated Colby, 4-0, on Tuesday afternoon.

Marguerite Soule led the Black Bears with a double, an RBI, and a run scored.

Maine got on the board first in the third inning when Meagan Ramos singled to centerfield, advanced to second when Kate Joseph walked, and scored on Brittany Cheney’s RBI single.

Bates sweeps Thomas

LEWISTON – Stacia Saniuk broke a scoreless tie with a solo home run in the first game and Bates defeated Thomas 4-1 in the second game for a doubleheader sweep.

Saniuk led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a towering fly ball that cleared the center-field fence. It was only the second hit for Bates, and the fourth in the first game.

Bobcats pitcher Kristin Masino walked one and struck out six. Thomas’ senior pitcher Joy Ireland struck out nine, with no walks.

In the nightcap, Bates had a 1-0 lead heading into the sixth after Saniuk drove in Katie Franklin with an RBI single. Thomas tied the game in the sixth when Lindsay Sierra, scored from third on a wild pitch. The Bobcats scored three runs in the sixth to break the deadlock.

St. Joe’s sweeps UMF

STANDISH – St. Joseph’s College rallied to claim a 6-5 win in the opener of a doubleheader with Maine-Farmington. The Monkscompleted the sweep with a 7-5 triumph.

UMF scored twice in the first inning of the opener as Mary Berry and Megan Goodrow delivered back-to-back RBI singles. St. Joe’s rallied for three runs in the bottom of the first, and then scored three more in the fifth.

St. Joe’s opened the second game with a run in the first and five more in the third for a quick 6-0 lead. The Beavers clawed back with four, highlighted by a double from Berry and run-scoring singles by Goodrow and Erin Porter. UMF pulled within one on an RBI double by Megan McCrum, but the Monks tallied an insurance run.

USM sweeps UMB

GORHAM – Katie Mainville fanned 10 batters and was a perfect three-for-three from the plate with two RBIs to lead Southern Maine to a five inning 8-0 win over UMass-Boston in the first game of a doubleheader.

The Huskies swept the Beacons with an 11-3 victory in the second game.

In the second game, USM raced out to a 6-0 lead after two innings. After a lead off single from Caitlin Stivaletta, Danica Martin launched a line-drive home run over the left field fence. Megan Stanley contributed a two-run double, Megan Irving added a two-run single.

, and Meghan Ford chipped in with an RBI single.

Women’s lacrosse
Trinity 13, Bates 11

Hartford, CONN. – Emily Allen netted the decisive 12th goal for Trinity with 3:20 left on the clock as Trinity topped Bates 13-11.

Lauren Malinkowski scored three second-half goals to lead the Bantams (5-6).

Shannon Tully and Molly Wagner scored three goals apiece for the Bobcats (4-5), who dropped their fourth straight game. Meg Coffin and Caroline Thomas added two apiece.

Michelle Smith turned aside 14 shots for Trinity. Bates keeper Katie Nickerson made four saves.
