TUNBRIDGE, Vt. (AP) – The Tunbridge World’s Fair has canceled the demolition derby for this September’s fair.
Fair officials say costs, especially insurance, have increased dramatically.
They considered raising ticket prices, but decided that would turn people away.
Some demolition derby drivers are unhappy. “I think it will hurt them,” said demolition derby driver Baxter Doty. “Some people say I’m not going to the fair if I can’t see (the) derby.”
Tunbridge World’s Fair President Euclid Farnham said officials recognized that canceling the demolition derby could hurt attendance.
“We may be making a serious mistake and if we are we’ll admit it and go back to having (the) derby in 2007,” said Farnham.
