Each day that I read the paper, I thank God that I live in the state of Maine.

How fortunate I am to have such intelligent leaders in state government making important decisions for my welfare.

I am being facetious, of course.

I read with interest the article concerning the “new law expanding protection orders to include animals.” While the law has some merit on its face, one would question the governor and other leaders grandstanding and praising the passage of the law.

To that I ask: Did you bump your foolish heads?

Just recently, the Legislature and governor failed to pass Megan’s Law, which would have protected our children from child predators, pedophiles and other vile criminals. We did not even join with other New England states on this one. Which law was more important?

Lawmakers have once again proven that animals are more important than our citizens, as they did when they showed more concern for circus elephants than our elderly citizens.

How can any of them sleep at night? They have abandoned the children and all the citizens of Maine.

I hope that all who read this will look at how their legislators and governor voted on Megan’s law and compare it to how they voted on this issue.

I anxiously await November, when I hope the citizens of this state will send these fools packing and replace them with some legislators who have a margin of intelligence and common sense.
