PARIS – Alan Hakala remained in jail Monday, but his son, who was arrested with his father in their West Paris home last week, has posted bail, according to court documents.

Alan Hakala, 42, and Joseph Hakala, 22, were arrested early Thursday morning at 9 Snow Falls Road and charged with growing marijuana after police raided their home and said they found more than 200 marijuana seedlings and 23 guns.

Alan Hakala’s bail – set by a judge at $25,000 in cash or $50,000 in real estate – is higher than his son’s of $10,000 cash or $25,000 in real estate. Along with the felony charge of aggravated cultivation of marijuana, Alan Hakala has also been charged with illegally possessing firearms, which he is prohibited from doing because he is a convicted felon, state police said.

Hakala’s conviction stems from a Florida burglary case.

The arrest came 16 years after he was acquitted of murder in the shooting death of Isaac “Charlie” Russell, whose body was found in a field off Pikes Hills Road in Norway in October 1989.
