NEW SHARON – Members of the New Sharon Congregational Church are hosting an open house shower Saturday, April 29, for Avril Butterfield, who lost her home on Route 2 to fire last month.

The group is trying to help her replace household items, said friend and second cousin, Jessie Dill.

Butterfield is staying with her daughter in Chesterfield. She plans to put a mobile home on the lot where her house burned, Dill said.

Butterfield’s husband, Melvin, died in December after his clothes caught fire while he was out in his workshop making toys for his great-grandchildren, Dill said.

The congregation is planning a visiting time and light lunch with refreshments and desserts from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church vestry on Cape Cod Hill Road.

“We’re giving gifts,” Dill said. “We’re going to have a money tree and basket for gift cards.”
