Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
Thanks to you, firefighters

This to thank the courageous firefighters from the fire departments of Turner, Leeds, Greene, Buckfield, Auburn, Livermore and Wales. Because of all the men and women in these departments, I still have my house. I know that they don’t get paid much, but they have my deepest gratitude.

I also want to thank Ken Morris for carrying out my son last month.

Some things are still a blur, but to anyone who helped, please know that I thank you very much.

An angel in South Paris

On April 5, I took my brother (who is mentally challenged) out to dinner to celebrate his 55th birthday. An aunt, a cousin and a dear friend came with us to a restaurant in South Paris. The waitress gave my brother a bouquet of balloons, and many of the staff and customers wished him a happy birthday.

I know he felt very special that day.

When the waitress came at the end of the meal to ask if we needed anything else, she also told me that our bill had been paid in full. A gentleman who was near our table was so touched by the way we were celebrating that he wanted to do something kind. He was a man who I do not know, but certainly consider an angel. It touched all our hearts.

So, to the angel out there, we thank you.

Our great community

We thank everyone who helped make my supper and fundraiser possible. Once again, people in our great community rallied together as has been needed many times before. Also, we thank people for cards, telephone calls, transportation, thoughts, mysterious food deliveries and, most of all, your prayers. Family and friends continue to stand by me to beat this cancer.

My second four-week round of radiation has begun, with a host of medications and more chemotherapy to follow that. My heart goes out to those who have gone through the same and even more.

We also appreciate the support shown by our suppliers at Tilton’s Market, which helped make the benefit a huge success.

Thanks again and I’ll see everyone in better days to come.

Rita Tilton, Buckfield
Always in need of blood

Many times during the year the local Eagles Club Auxiliary, hospital and the American Legion Auxiliary hold blood drives.

The volunteers and workers who do all the work that makes these blood drives a success deserve a big “thank-you” for their hard work.

There are many people who cannot give blood, for many reasons. Then there are those who donate every time they are called upon to support the blood drive.

I think the people who make these blood drives a success should all be very proud of what they do for the community.

I would ask everyone to please give when called, or when a blood drive is going on in the community.
