NEW GLOUCESTER – The Shaker Museum and the Shaker Store, Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village, Route 26, will open for the season on Friday, May 26.

The season will include tours, special events, crafts workshops and demonstrations. Highlights will be the Maine Festival of American Music, herb garden internships, nature walks, apple Saturdays and the Shaker Christmas Fair.

The first crafts demonstrations will be: June 10, R and R Spinners; June 17, woodturning with Peter Asselyn; and June 24, blacksmithing with Tim Greene. Demonstrations, free and open to the public, will continue throughout the season.

A one-day workshop on how to make a floor cloth will open the season from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 27. Preparation, painting and design will be taught, and everyone will go home with their own creation. The cost is $40, and preregistration is required.
