Police Saturday caught up with a man suspected of having lead them on a Friday morning foot chase around Lake Auburn.

Daniel Folsom, 23, of 96 Bryant Road in Buckfield, also is a suspect in a home burglary in Greene on Friday.

Mechanic Falls police caught up with Folsom Saturday morning at the Rainbow Federal Credit Union attempting to cash a cashier’s check that had been reported stolen from a Greene home Friday.

Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Smith was investigating the Greene burglary and he drove to Mechanic Falls to take custody of Folsom.

“There was a ring reported stolen in the house as well, and he had that ring on his finger,” Smith said.

Auburn Police officer Barry Schmieks later identified Folsom as the man that ran from him. Schmieks had been called to Surrey Lane Friday morning to investigate reports of a suspicious person ringing door bells in the neighborhood.

Folsom allegedly ran off into the brush around Lake Auburn’s northern-eastern shore when Schmieks tried to talk to him. Police searched for two hours Friday but were unable to locate him.

Police did recover a bicycle and a backpack. The backpack contained Folsom’s identification and some items reported stolen in other area burglaries.

Smith said Folsom is being charged with felony burglary and felony theft. His bond has been set at $5,000.
