ALEXANDRIA, Va. – Carmen Pinette McGraine, 94, formerly of Lewiston, died on Jan. 3.

She was born in Auburn on July 21, 1911, the daughter of Phillippe and Corinne Filteau (Dugal), and was educated in Auburn schools.

In 1930, she married Louis J. Pinette. He was a Lewiston police commissioner, the manager of the Boston Shoe Store and a founder of the Lewiston Police Athletic League. After his death in 1960, she moved to Atlanta. For 23 years, she was a housemother at the Georgia Institute of Technology for Sigma Epsilon Phi Fraternity. A scholarship in her honor has been established at Georgia Tech.

In 1983, she married S. Robert McGraine, a Georgia Tech alumnus and brother of Sigma Epsilon Phi. They resided in Atlanta until his death in 2000.

She returned to Maine for two years, then in 2003 moved to be with her daughter in Virginia.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra J. Pinette Paige; two grandchildren, Forrest William Louis Paige (Cynthia) of Oklahoma City and Monique Paige Camarillo (Ramiro) of Sterling, Va.; two stepdaughters, Cheryl Fletcher and Sharon Rhodes, both of Atlanta; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Rene and Maurice Filteau.
