LEWISTON – Barbara H. Allen, 81, of North Jay, passed away late Saturday evening, Apr. 29, at Central Maine Heart Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 11, 1925, in Jay, the daughter of Horace M. and Alice S. (Bradley) Hall. She grew up in Jay, and graduated from Jay High School.

Early in her years, she worked in Hallowell as a bookkeeper, as well as a secretary for George Bass at G.H. Bass.

She made her home in North Jay, raising her daughter, Paula Bradley, and operating Allen’s Garage Inc. for more than 40 years.

Many people grew to know and respect Barbara for her many contributions to the community, as a member of the Jay Historical Society, the Firemen’s Auxiliary, the Country Squire Quilters and many other groups.

Barbara was an accomplished quilter and enjoyed spending her retirement years teaching and learning from her quilting friends. Her Tuesday Quilting Girls had a special place around her quilting table, as well as in her heart.

The pride of Barbara’s life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, by whom she was much loved and will be greatly missed.

Her survivor’s include her daughter, Paula Bradley, of Wilmington, N.C.; a son-in-law, Richard Ring of North Jay; a grandson, Elijah Ring and his wife, Tiffany, of Hubert, N.C.; three granddaughters, Shiloh Ring of North Jay, Katie Ring of Jacksonville, N.C., and Abigail DiPasquale and her husband, Doug, of North Jay; three great-grandchildren, Brian and Tylor Ring of Hubert, N.C., and Deonte Ring of North Jay.

She was predeceased by a sister, Lorna.
