AUBURN – Councilors approved sidewalks and parking lots in New Auburn on Monday as part of the Community Development Block Grant budget.

Councilors also approved the overall $2.04 million block grant action plan. It includes money for purchasing buses for the Lewiston Auburn Transit Committee, loan programs for encouraging small business and $25,000 to create a master plan for New Auburn.

Community Development Administrator Reine Mynahan the budget includes money to repair sidewalks in New Auburn and build new parking lots on Miller Street. The city also agreed to purchase the empty lot on 15 Academy St., across from the Great Falls Performing Arts Center. That will be used as a parking lot.

Auburn receives federal CDBG money to pay for social service agencies, building affordable housing and paying for community amenities such as Festival Plaza and Bonney Park. It also uses the money for economic development in the form of business loans.
