LEWISTON – The Bates College softball team finished its season with a split in a doubleheader with the University of Southern Maine, winning 9-3 in the opener before dropping the second game 13-6.

USM starter Caterina Riitano gave up nine runs on nine hits in the opener, uncorking six wild pitches in the game. Riitano also hit her first homerun of the season in the loss. Kyla Decato went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI for the Bobcats, and freshman Stacia Saniuk hit her team-leading ninth round-tripper of the season. Kristin Masino pitched seven innings for the win.

In the second game, Riitano hit two more home runs in a 3-for-3 effort as the Huskies (20-19) smacked 18 hits. Christen Lachapelle was 4-for-4 with a homer, two doubles, four runs and three RBIs for USM. Decato added two more hits and two more RBIs for Bates (16-16).

Baseball

Southern Maine 13, St. Joseph’s 2

GORHAM – Max Arsenault collected five hits, including a grand-slam, to finish the day with five RBIs as the University of Southern Maine baseball team rolled over St. Joseph’s 13-2 in a non-conference matchup. Jordan Yanni connected on a three-run homer for the Huskies (24-12), who racked up sixteen hits off four Monk pitchers in the game. Chris Burleson pitched seven innings for the win.

Chris Doughty had a pair of hits for St. Joseph’s (30-8-1).
