RUMFORD – Geneva M. Ziko, 82, of Hancock Street, Rumford, died Sunday, April 30, at the Rumford Hospital.

She was born in Rumford Dec. 1, 1923, a daughter of Stephen and Mary (Casey) McPhee, and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1941.

She was a telephone operator in Rumford for several years prior to closing of the Rumford Office and then for more than 18 years at the Rumford High School Cafeteria as a clerk until retirement in 1983.

She was a communicant of St. Athanasius – St John Church, where she was formerly active as a C.C.D. teacher and eucharistic minister.

She was married in Rumford, on Oct. 13, 1947 to Edward β€œTed” Ziko. He died in Rumford on Feb. 11, 2005.

Survivors include sons, Edward A. Ziko and wife, Kathryn, of Mexico, Thomas Ziko and wife, Barbara, of Raleigh, N.C., Joseph Ziko and wife, Connie, of Coventry, Conn. and Timothy Ziko and wife, Mary, of Simsbury, Conn.; a daughter-in-law, Cecilia Ziko of Portland; eight grandchildren, Alexander, Rebecca, Suzanna, Rachel, Margaret, Ben, Laura and Kate; sisters, Mrs. Barbara Fontaine of Pine Island, Fla., and Mexico, Mrs. Rita Wyman and husband, John, of Rumford, Mrs. Theresa Vatalaro of Rumford.

She was predeceased by a son, Walter; brothers, Donald and Stephen McPhee; and a sister, Mary Sciaraffa.
