MECHANIC FALLS – In other business at this week’s meeting, the Town Council decided not to take up Dwight Nichols’ offer to sell the town his bucket truck after determining that the town’s need for such a piece of equipment could be adequately met by renting one.

The council also approved:

• amendments to the town’s personnel policy;

• a three-year lease agreement with Androscoggin Head Start for the building used by the Mechanic Falls Head Start program;

• a recommendation for a victualer’s license for the Sportsmen’s Deli, subject to successful local and state health inspections; and

• appointment of Janice Earle as library trustee to replace John Emery, who was unable to attend meetings.

Lee informed the council that the town may have to reconsider how it appoints town constables as it appears the town may have to report them as part-time police and, as such, would have to pay $293 each under the town’s insurance liability policy. Lee said the Maine Municipal Association is looking into the matter of town constables and town liability.

The council also agreed to hold a public hearing on the municipal and school budgets that will be going to town meeting voters.

The public hearing will be at 7 p.m. May 10 at the Elm Street School. The town meeting will be held at 9 a.m. May 20 at the Elm Street School.
