RUMFORD – Music and art were the themes of the day as scores of artworks created by Chris Wing’s Mountain Valley High School art students went on display in the school’s cafeteria.

Watercolors, oils and acrylics, collages and sculptures were exhibited on easels and tables for dozens of art enthusiasts to see.

One of the unique assignments this year was to create a painting that features a Maine-made agricultural product. Grapes, apples, lobsters, maple syrup, cucumbers and many other products were colorfully designed by the students.

Others were asked to create a poster of a near or faraway place or a portrait.

While people viewed the artwork, the high school’s Jazz Combo made up of music teacher Mike Prescott on keyboard, and students TJ Fournier and Brian Arsenault on tenor sax, John Glenn on base guitar, Danille Descoteaux on clarinet and Paul Garrido on drums performed both quiet, background jazz and livelier music.
