FARMINGTON – The Nordica Trio will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington. The Nordica Trio consists of Graybert Beacham on violin, Karen Beacham on clarinet and Cheryl Tschanz on piano. The program will include works by Jan Vanhal, Darius Milhaud, Leonard Bernstein and Paul Schoenfield.

Music on the program ranges from the delicate, tuneful and lilting style of 18th century composer Jan Vanhal to the rousing, joyful, exuberant, Klezmer-influenced “Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano” written by Paul Schoenfield, born in 1947.

In between these musical bookends Beacham and Tschanz will perform Leonard Bernstein’s “Sonata for Clarinet and Piano,” written at age 23 and considered his first acknowledged composition.

The trio will also perform the lyric, quintessentially French “Suite for Violin, Clarinet and Piano” by Darius Milhaud written in 1936.

The Nordica Trio is donating its fee for this concert to the SAD 9 Music Department for the purchase of band instruments for beginning students.

Admission for the concert is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors (62+), free for children under 16 and UMF students with ID. For more info, call 779-0697.
