TORONTO – Russ Adams homered and had four RBIs to lead Toronto over the Los Angeles 13-3 Friday night in the Blue Jays’ largest victory margin this season.

Toronto catcher Bengie Molina went 1-for-3 in his first game against his former team. Angels starter Ervin Santana plunked Molina with a pitch in the fifth, prompting a smile from Bengie’s brother Jose, the Angels’ catcher. Troy Glaus went 3-for-4 in his first game against his ex-club, and the Blue Jays finished with 17 hits.

Adams, who ended an 0-for-15 slide with a go-ahead double Wednesday night, hit a three-run homer off Estaban Yan in the seventh. Frank Catalanotto also homered for the Blue Jays, who tied a season-high for runs.

Tigers 9, Twins 6

MINNEAPOLIS – Magglio Ordonez, Craig Monroe and Brandon Inge homered, and the Detroit Tigers beat Minnesota 9-6 Friday night for their fourth straight win over the Twins.

Kenny Rogers (5-2) allowed five runs and eight hits in five innings, the shortest of his seven starts this year, leaving after 86 pitches. He won for the fourth time in five starts.

Todd Jones pitched the ninth for his sixth save in six chances.

Yankees 8, Rangers 7

ARLINGTON, Texas – Mike Mussina allowed only three hits pitching into the eighth inning, Alex Rodriguez drove in three runs, and the New York Yankees held on for an 8-7 victory at Texas on Friday night that ended the Rangers’ six-game winning streak.

Mussina (5-1) was efficient, throwing 62 of his season-low 86 pitches for strikes until being pulled after Kevin Mench’s leadoff single in the eighth with the Yankees up 8-1.

The Yankees bullpen, including Mariano Rivera, almost gave the game away.

Royals 5, White Sox 4

CHICAGO – Kerry Robinson had a go-ahead RBI single in a four-run ninth Friday night as the Kansas City Royals rallied to beat the Chicago White Sox 5-4 for their second straight road win after losing their first 12 this season.

Joe Crede’s solo homer in the eighth off Elmer Dessens (2-1) put Chicago up 2-1, but the White Sox’s bullpen couldn’t hold it in the ninth when relievers issued four walks. Matt Stairs capped the Royals’ rally with a bases-loaded single.

National League

Cardinals 7, Marlins 2

MIAMI – Albert Pujols hit his 16th home run, Jeff Suppan won his third consecutive start and St. Louis beat Florida 7-2 Friday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

Playing in his team’s 30th game, Pujols tied Cy Williams of the 1923 Philadelphia Phillies for the fewest games needed to reach 16 homers. His drive sparked a seven-run fifth inning for the Cardinals.

Suppan (3-2) pitched 8 1-3 innings, allowing five hits and two runs.

Nationals 6, Pirates 0

WASHINGTON – Nick Johnson homered twice and Zach Day won for the first time in nearly a month, leading the Washington Nationals over the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-0 Friday night.

Johnson hit two-run homers in the first off Oliver Perez (1-5) and in the eighth against John Grabow, his third multihomer game and second this season. Johnson was 2-for-2 with two walks.

Claimed off waivers from Colorado on April 26, Day (2-3) had been winless in three starts since April 8, including a 3-1 loss at St. Louis on April 30 in his first game back with the Nationals.

Phillies 8, Giants 3

PHILADELPHIA – With balls flying out of Philadelphia’s hitter-friendly park, Barry Bonds barely reached the outfield.

Bonds remained two homers behind Babe Ruth, but Ryan Howard and Chase Utley each homered twice to lead the Philadelphia Phillies past the San Francisco Giants 8-3 Friday night for their sixth straight victory.
