PHILLIPS – Donna E. Smith, 59, of Phillips, died early Thursday, May 4, after a long illness, with her loving family by her side.

She was born April 1, 1947, in Rangeley, a daughter of Watson and Eleanor Wilbur. She was educated in Rangeley schools.

On March 13, 1965, she married Joseph Smith in Rangeley. They made their home along the Sandy River on the Number 6 Road in West Phillips. She spent many years being a loving wife and mother in her home. She then followed her passion for caring for others by being a nursing assistant, and she cared for many elderly people in their homes in the area.

She enjoyed sewing, painting, gardening, hunting, camping and traveling, but her greatest pleasure and joy came from spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren grow. She enjoyed life, and everyone who knew her loved her.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Joseph of Phillips; her son, Tad and his wife, Michelle, of Phillips and her daughter, Tanya, of Canton; three granddaughters, Kasey, Megan and Jordan, all of Phillips; her mother, Eleanor Wilbur of Rangeley; three siblings, Kathy Williamson and her husband, Gary, of Peru, Laurel Wilbur of Rangeley and Robert Wilbur and his wife, Leeanna, of Rangeley; a sister-in-law, Jeannetta Reed of Phillips; a brother-in-law, Steve Smith and his wife, Jill, of Phillips; nine nephews; and two nieces.

She was predeceased by her father, Watson Wilbur of Rangeley.
