NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Luis Jimenez slugged a three-run homer to support two-hit pitching by Kason Gabbard over seven innings as the Portland Sea Dogs completed a three-game series sweep with a 7-5 Eastern League win over the New Britain Rock Cats on Sunday.

Portland (18-11) has won four straight and nine of its last 10 games.

Jimenez, who played for New Britain last year, hit the first pitch from starter Glen Perkins (0-3) for his fourth homer of the season in Portland’s decisive four-run sixth inning.

Gabbard (4-1) allowed two singles in the third inning when the Rock Cats (10-16) took a 1-0 lead. He walked two and struck out seven. Barry Hertzler yielded a run in the ninth but earned his third save.

Jay Johnson had two hits including a solo homer, his second, and drove in two runs for the Sea Dogs.

Matt Moses hit his fifth homer of the year – a two-run shot in the eighth inning – for New Britain (10-16). Denard Span drove in two runs.
