AUBURN – Michael Beaulieu, a teacher at Lewiston High School and a lifelong resident of Lewiston-Auburn, is seeking election to the District 68 seat in the Maine House of Representatives.

Beaulieu has taught American history and government for 39 years.

“I have had the enviable position of being able to pursue government issues at all levels with a large number of very bright and energetic young adults,” he said in a prepared statement.

“At every turn, I attempted to relate topics we studied to current events as they related to their lives and their futures. I have consistently encouraged them to become active members of their community, and at this point in time, I am going to practice what I have been preaching. I am hoping for an opportunity to contribute to my community. I am looking for the opportunity to make a difference.”

The fact that Maine has one of the highest tax rates and a growing burden of debt is also of vital concern to the voters, he said. And quality education is a “right” to which each and every citizen is entitled. “My interest in a better life for all Maine residents can be achieved only if opportunities are in place to enable young and old alike to live productive and rewarding lives.”

Beaulieu has been married to the former Paula Ann Moreau for 40 years. They have two children and two grandchildren.
