JAY – School committee members voted 4-1 in favor of creating and staffing a prekindergarten program at their regular meeting Thursday night.

Chairman Clint Brooks was the lone dissenter.

Discussion of the program went on for more than an hour, reflecting concerns about having enough information to make a decision about the program and if it would hurt the Jay Head Start program.

The half-day program, which could serve up to 34 4-year-olds, would be staffed by a full-time teacher working five days a week, and an ed tech working four days. Sessions could be scheduled for mornings and afternoons.
