ORONO – Melanie Denischuck snapped a 1-1 tie by belting a solo homer in the bottom of the third as Maryland Baltimore County eliminated Maine from the America East Tournament with a 5-1 softball win Friday.
Erin Provost tied the game for Maine (35-19) with a solo blast in the top of the third. She had three of the six hits off UMBC starter Krista Kearns.
UMBC (46-19) added a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth for insurance. Jenna Balent (14-12) suffered the loss after allowing just three hits and fanning seven over five innings.
