LEWISTON – Robert Poulin, a Democrat and a lifelong Lewiston resident, is running for re-election as Androscoggin County treasurer.

Poulin said the position requires a person to be knowledgeable in government accounting. Recently, the Governmental Accounting Standards Board has set new accounting standards that require additional challenges and deadlines for all counties.

Presently, the county treasurer’s office manages a $9.9 million budget.

Poulin is a graduate of the University of Maine and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration. Poulin worked more than 18 years for the state as both chief accountant and later as deputy budget and fiscal director. While employed by the state, he served a number of years as a board member on the State Health Commission.

Poulin has held the elected position of Androscoggin County treasurer for more than 5 years.

In the private sector, Poulin has owned a number of small businesses and together with his wife, Helen, owns Austin Business Services.

Poulin and his wife reside on Ferry Road in Lewiston and have four children and three grandchildren.
