RUMFORD – Four people have returned nomination papers for the one open seat on the Board of Selectmen. No one has taken out papers for the two open seats on the SAD 43 board .

All terms are for three years and elections are set for June 13 at the American Legion Hall on Congress Street.

Board Chairman James A. Thibodeau is seeking re-election. He’s challenged by J. Arthur Boivin of Crescent Avenue, Roger Richardson of Route 120, and Seth T. Carey of Congress Street.

Thibodeau, a communications consultant, wants a sixth term on the board. Boivin is a former Rumford fire chief and past member of the SAD 43 and Region 9 School of Applied Technology boards. Carey is a lawyer who led a campaign to change the method of voting for the municipal budget to a referendum vote. Richardson is a retired farmer.

Neither school board members Michael Papsadora nor Diane Paterson is running.

Town Clerk Jane Giasson said she must research how the SAD 43 seats can be filled, although she believes write-in candidates or appointments by selectmen may be made.

Also on the ballot are positions of tax collector, town clerk/treasurer, and two seats on the Board of Assessors.

Unopposed are: Giasson, of Swift Avenue, for another two-year term; Carlo J. Puiia, of Wheeler Street, two-year term as tax collector; Ronald E. Russell, an appraiser who lives on the Isthmus Road, three-year term on the Board of Assessors; and, Peter J. Perry, a retired appraiser who lives on Penobscot Street, one-year term on the Board of Assessors.
