Volunteers needed

NORWAY – Volunteers are being sought to help build the community playground donated by the New Balance Foundation at Lake Pennesseewassee Park from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 18. Retired group

OXFORD – The Oxford County Education Association – Retired will meet at the Oxford American Legion Hall on Friday, May 19. A plant sale will be a scholarship fundraiser, with members and guests are asked to bring house or garden plants.

Members and guests will meet at 10:30 a.m. for registration, to look over the plants and to greet friends before the business session at 11 a.m., led by Rodney Abbott. Dinner will follow at noon, with the program to be an introduction to area political candidates. There will be a memorial service to honor those educators who died in the last year.

The meeting is open to anyone who has retired from positions in the county school districts as teachers, librarians, nurses, administrator, bus driver or assistants.

Turkey supper

SOUTH PARIS – Floyd A. Harlow Jr. VFW Post 9787 and Western Maine Veterans Advisory Committee will host a turkey supper from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at the VFW, 58 East Main St. The supper is open to the public. The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children. The proceeds will benefit the activities at the Maine Veteran’s Home.

Pie sale

WEST PARIS – The annual rhubarb pie sale will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 20, at the First Universalist Church. White elephant items will also be offered.

Rummage sale

NORWAY – The Youth Ministry of St. Catherine’s Church will hold a rummage sale from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 20, in the parish hall, 32 Paris St. There will be a selection of summer clothing and white elephant items. The monies earned will be used for retreats and charities for young people.

ATV training

PARIS – An ATV safety training program will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 20, at Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street. Students age 10 to 12 need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. To enroll, contact Perry Edwards at 743-6290 or Mark Stearns at 743-3870.

Seniors meeting

OXFORD – The Lake Thompson Senior Citizens will meet at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at Market Square Restaurant.

Dinner will be from the menu. There will be a sign-up sheet for those planning to go on the annual trip in June. Beano will be played if time permits. Members and guests are welcome.

Chinese auction

NAPLES – The Resistance ministries, a nonprofit youth ministry, will hold a Chinese auction fundraiser aboard the Songo River Queen II from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 10. The ministry has made it possible to receive a free cruise ticket by purchasing 90 auction tickets in advance for $25.

The first 25 tickets purchased will include extra 20 tickets free as well as a free $5 meal on the cruise. There is space for 100 people on the cruise and tickets are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The cruise will feature a dollar table, grab bags and food.
