JAY – Lori Shink envisions a center of town with a town clock, benches and walking trails around a new town office in the future.
“I want to make it our center of town,” she said Tuesday.
The Jay resident who works at the town office also wants to bring in things to do for the town’s youth.
Selectmen agreed to set up a town clock fund last week so that donations and proceeds from events could be accepted.
Shink said she would like to see a four-sided clock so that it could be seen from all points.
The stand-alone clocks she’s eyeing range in price from $8,000 to more than $20,000.
She’s already arranged for a circus to come to town in mid-July at Jay Plaza. The event will be something for families and youth to attend and the proceeds would go to the clock.
No date has been set yet, she said, but it will be two days. The tickets are prepriced and every adult ticket bought for $12 comes with two free, under-14-year-old children’s passes. If the tickets are bought at the door, they are $14.
Shink is also trying to organize a carnival coming to town to benefit the clock.
