LEWISTON – The Lewiston Housing Authority is accepting applications for Roger R. Berube Scholarships. The authority may award two grants of $1,000 each, with one going to a public housing resident and one to a Section 8 resident.

To be eligible, an applicant must be a high school graduate or hold a GED diploma, who is already enrolled in an accredited college (or will be in the summer or fall), technical college, nursing school, i.e., any endeavor, the completion of which would lead to a profession or a trade.

It can include non-academic courses such as hair styling or apprenticeship programs. The applicant need not be going into the freshman year, but can be anyone (teen or adult) affiliated with the Lewiston Housing Authority who is pursuing some form of formal education or training.

Anyone interested is asked to contact Reta Herrick at the Lewiston Housing Authority, Department of Resident Services, at 783-8539. Application forms are available at LHA, One College St., or at the Hillview office, 77 Rideout Ave. Deadline for applying is June 19 by the end of the business day. Successful applicants will be notified in July.

The Berube Scholarship is one of many asset-building programs available for LHA residents. Other programs of self-sufficiency include Points for Progress, family development accounts, family self-sufficiency and home ownership opportunities.
