MECHANIC FALLS – Residents of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland can dispose of paints, poisons and pesticides at a household hazardous waste collection day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Mechanic Falls Transfer Station on Route 26.
People should bring hazardous waste in original containers if possible.
Leaking containers can be placed in plastic bags or cardboard boxes. People are encouraged to get vouchers from their town offices, which will allow for the disposal of up to 10 gallons of liquid or 40 pounds of dry waste at no cost to residents of those towns. If people have more waste than that, they should contact the town office for further information.
The collection is part of the ongoing Environmental Depot program run by Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments in conjunction with towns in the area and a private, qualified contractor.
