GARDINER – Members of Maine-ly Harmony women’s a cappella chorus were flying high when they returned from Burlington, Vt., after a weekend of classes, competition and around-the-clock harmonizing.

Their performance package of “My Mother’s Eyes” and “Jazz Baby” garnered them eighth place in the competition, a move up of five positions. It earned them the Rising Star – Most Improved Chorus Award.

The competition comes from choruses throughout New England, New Jersey, Maryland, Montreal and Quebec.

The local chorus, directed by Kathy Greason of Hallowell, is comprised of women and teens from around the state who carpool to Gardiner Regional Middle School at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays to rehearse.

They are available for community performances and welcome women and teens to join them any Wednesday to learn more about the chorus. Call Lea Davis at 622-1273 for more information.
