HERSHEY, Pa. – Shane O’Brien scored the game-winning goal on the power play at the 7:31 mark of double overtime as the Portland Pirates topped the Hershey Bears 6-5 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday night.

The Bears still lead the series 2-1.

Portland’s Jani Hurme earned his eighth win of the postseason with a 39-save effort. At the other end, the Pirates handed Frederic Cassivi his first loss of the playoffs, despite making 39 saves.

Hershey had its 10-game unbeaten streak in the playoffs come to an end.

Trailing 5-3 late in the third period, Portland scored twice in a 22-second span to tie it up.

The Pirates drew to within a goal at the 14:38 mark. Zenon Konopka took a feed from Pierre Parenteau at the top of the right face off circle and one-timed the puck into the top left corner of the net.

Garrett Bembridge tied it when he tipped home a Bruno St. Jacques shot from the point.

Tomas Fleischmann and Dave Steckel scored twice for the Bears.

Konopka scored twice for Portland and added an assist.

O’ Brien and Parenteau each had a goal and two assists.

Game 4 is today at 6 p.m. at the Giant Center.

The series will return to the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland for Game 5 on Tuesday.

Game 6, if necessary, will be played on Wednesday in Portland.
