LEWISTON – Rita B. Hamann, 86, of 12 Haley St., died Monday, May 22, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center with family at her side.

She was born in St. George, Quebec, Sept. 8, 1919, a daughter of Gedeon and Valeda (Dion) Barriault. She was educated in Canada schools, moved to this area as a young lady and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

On May 30, 1949, she married Henri Hamann who died in 1984. Many years ago she worked for a time in local shoe shops, but then spent many years as a homemaker as she and her husband raised their only son.

She was a longtime member of Holy Family Church and among her favorite enjoyments were oil painting, gardening, crocheting and baking cakes and decorating them. She also enjoyed the company of her pet canary.

She leaves her son, Claude Hamann and his wife, Jacqueline, of Lewiston; two grandchildren, Angela Hamann and Thomas Hamann; and two sisters, Aline Morin and Yolande Gendreau and her husband, Hubert, both of St. George Canada.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henri Hamann; a grandson, Nicholas Hamann; a sister, Gilberte Hamann ; and two brothers, Yvon and Hughes Barriault.
