OXFORD – Members of the Anderson-Staples Post 112, American Legion, and Auxiliary will observe Memorial Day at a ceremony at the Veteran’s Memorial Park on Monday, May 29.

Units participating in the parade should be at the Oxford Elementary School by 8:45 a.m. The parade will start from the school at 9 a.m. The Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School Band will furnish the music. The grand marshal will be S/Sgt. Charles D. Bowlin. Margaret Ellsworth will lay a wreath at the Ellsworth Memorial Park. The parade will continue to the Pismo Beach Cemetery, the Congregational Church Cemetery and end up at the Veteran’s Memorial Park at the Legion Hall.

The Rev. Gertrude DeCoteau, minister at the East Otisfield Free Baptist Church, will give the invocation and benediction.

The memorial address will be given by Bowlin, recruiting and retention non-commissioned officer with the Maine National Guard assigned to the Norway Armory.

“In Flanders Field” and the Gettysburg Address will be recited by a Girl and Boy Scout. Virginia Jillson, a World War II veteran and Legion member, will lay a wreath at the Veteran’s Memorial Park. The Marine Corps League will give the 21-gun salute.

Coffee and doughnuts will be served after the ceremony. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Legion Hall.
