AUBURN – Alfred L. Collet, of Lewiston, a lifelong outdoorsman, passed on May 24, at Hospice House, surrounded by his family.

He was born in Auburn, on May 20, 1926, the son of Blanche Cote Collet and Alfred Collet Sr. He grew up in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and shared with his family their love of the outdoors – fishing, hunting, boating and alpine skiing.

He graduated from Edward Little High School and New York School of Optics.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II.

He married Monita Poliquin in 1953, and together had three sons. Alfred was predeceased by Monita on Dec. 1, 1996.

Like his father before him, Alfred was employed, for 34 years, by the Hall & Knight Hardware Co. He was a familiar and welcomed sight to all that knew him. He had an “uncanny” ability to build and maintain unique business relationships with dealers and buyers. He was credible, ethical and trustworthy.

Alfred had an unbridled passion for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman. He truly enjoyed deer, bird, and most recently, turkey hunting. He also fished many of the small ponds in western Maine for trout and salmon. Over the years, he made several fishing trips to Alaska.

Alfred was also an avid alpine skier. At Sugarloaf, he introduced his boys, at a very young age, to skiing. The legacy continues. His grandchildren continue the family’s love of skiing. Two are presently involved in alpine ski racing, and have had great success. Alfred was very proud.

Alfred is survived by his longtime companion, Jeanne O’Connell, of Lewiston; his sisters, Jeanette Collet Carroll of Lewiston, and Cecile Collet Jennings and her husband, Marty Jennings, of Lewiston; his brother; Louis Collet, and his wife, Rita Collet, of Lewiston; three sons, Paul A. Collet and his wife, Libby, of Freeport, Andre A. Collet, of Eustis, Denis A. Collet and his wife, Becky, of Winchester, Mass.

He is also survived by three grandchildren, Alden Nichols Collet, Ryan Nichols Collet and Jacqueline Anne Collet.
