TORONTO (AP) – Jermaine Dye and Rob Mackowiak homered to help the Chicago White Sox beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-5 Sunday.

The White Sox avoided a three-game sweep a day after manager Ozzie Guillen ripped his team following a lackluster performance in a 3-2 loss in 11 innings.

Jon Garland (4-2) got the win despite allowing five runs and seven hits in six innings. He struck out four and walked two. Bobby Jenks pitched the ninth for his 14th save in 15 chances.

Lyle Overbay homered twice for the Blue Jays.

Scott Podsednik led off the game with a triple and scored on Alex Cintron’s sacrifice fly to give Chicago a 1-0 lead. The White Sox then scored three runs in the second on four walks, a hit and on embarrassing error by Toronto catcher Gregg Zaun.

Toronto starter Ty Taubenheim (0-2) walked Joe Crede, Mackowiak and Podsednik before Cintron hit an RBI single to center. Taubenheim followed with a bases-loaded walk to Jim Thome to make it 3-0.

Podsednik scored when Zaun’s throw back to Taubenheim after a pitch to Paul Konerko was high and wide past the pitcher.

Overbay hit a solo shot in the bottom half to cut it to 4-1.

But Crede hit an RBI single in third and Dye hit a solo homer in the fifth to make it 6-1.

After Troy Glaus hit a two-run homer off Garland in the sixth, Overbay followed with his seventh homer to cut it to 6-4. It’s the fourth time this season Toronto has hit back-to-back homers.

Frank Catalanotto’s RBI grounder cut it to 6-5 in the seventh, but Mackowiak homered off Francisco Rosario in the eighth to make it 7-5.
