RUMFORD – Selectmen accepted the resignation of Rick Gauvin as one of the town’s representatives to the SAD 43 board effective at the end of the month.

With Gauvin’s resignation, three positions will be available to represent the town, Town Manager Steve Eldridge said Friday. Gauvin resigned to take a position within the district.

Diane Paterson and Michael Papsadora declined to seek second terms, and no one took out nomination papers to run for either of the three-year terms during the June 13 election.

Eldridge said Friday that the board may have to appoint members to the school board. Rumford has seven seats on the 13-member board.

Also at Thursday’s selectmen’s meeting, the board tabled action on awarding the contract for construction of a million-dollar spec building to be built in the new business park until the engineer for the potential buyer of the building has made a recommendation.

The board also tabled awarding the contract for the loan until the June 15 selectmen’s meeting.

Residents will decide at tonight’s annual town meeting whether to authorize the board to borrow up to $1.2 million for construction of the 60- by 100-foot steel building.

In a related business park matter, Eldridge said the board approved naming the major road in the park Business Park Road, and two smaller roads were named Chisholm Street and Bisbee Street.

In other matters, the board defeated a request to issue the town manager a credit card for use in town matters by a 2-2 vote. Selectman Greg Buccina was absent.

The board also awarded the contract for the purchase of a new wheel loader backhoe to the Westbrook firm of Chadwick-BaRossa at the cost of $75,000.

About 25 people, including several Mountain Valley High School students, attended the 90-minute board meeting, Eldridge said.
