SABATTUS – Understaffed: That’s the term that best defines the town’s municipal government these days. In order to bring its staff back to par, the town decided to post openings to fill recent vacancies.
A shift in the administrative offices occurred when former Town Clerk Robin Dulac’s position became available. A shuffle of employees helped fill the vacancy but left an opening in its office clerk position. That position was filled Monday night but an announcement was delayed to allow the candidate time to inform her current employer.
Public works has also felt the pain of being shorthanded with the loss of one employee and an injury to another. Road Commissioner James Wood is working with town officials to get a full-time and temporary part-time driver on staff.
Students are also being sought to help public works with its summer duties. Wood said he will contact local guidance counselors to help fill the need for summer help. In past years summer help mowed public grounds and cemeteries.
After approximately 15 years of service Florence Behr decided to step down as secretary and active voting member of the planning board. The board is looking to fill the two positions.
For more information contact Denis Castonguay at 375-4720. The board meets at 7 p.m. every fourth Monday of the month in the Sabattus Municipal Building.
