MECHANIC FALLS – The second annual Tri-Town Optimist Club Oratorical Contest was held on May 25 at Elm Street School in Mechanic Falls. Nine contestants from Poland, Minot and Mechanic Falls gave a four- to five-minute speech titled “My Future is Bright Because…”

First place went to Rachel Sands of Poland Community School; second, Michaela Chasse of Elm Street School; and third, Felicia Baril of Elm Street School.

The three winners will compete at the Optimist District Oratorical Contest for $3,000 in scholarship money at the Auburn Police Station conference room at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 14. The public is invited.
