BETHEL – The Bethel Historical Society has announced winners of the 27th annual Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show, the work in the opinion of the judges that best reflected this year’s theme, “The Old Historic House.”

Division I, grades one and two: first, Ashley Savage, Crescent Park School; second, Jillian Delallo, Crescent Park School; third, Jerriah Edwards, Crescent Park School.

Division II, grades three and four: first, Mike Rodway, Crescent Park School; second, Anne Elizabeth Cushman, Crescent Park School; third, Skye Lynn Patten, Crescent Park School.

Division III, grades five and six: first, Ashley Brooke Hall, Andover Elementary School; second, Jennalee E. Putnam, Andover Elementary School; third, Hannah Gayle Huston, Woodstock Elementary School.

Judges were Tim Kavanaugh, Donald G. Bennett and June Abbott. Prizes included cash, a certificate of commendation and ribbon.

The contest honors the memory of Faye Sanborn Taylor (1908-1972), a local landscape painter, who was interested in encouraging the creative talents of young people. Also a charter member of the society, Mrs. Taylor is being honored for her foresight in joining the other 17 founders in establishing an organization that has sponsored the contest since 1980.

The annual St. Never’s Day sale held in a tent on Stan Howe’s lawn on May 27 and 28 was a success. Volunteers who helped with the pricing, setting up and supervising included Annie Hastings, Bob and Pat McCartney, Joe and Lynn Arizzi, Paula Howard and Jay Boschetti.

A house and luncheon tour of nine historic and contemporary houses in Bethel will be sponsored by the society on Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17. Houses range from the early 19th century to the 21st century. The tour plus a light luncheon is $20. Tickets are available at the society’s museum shop. For details, call 824-2908 or 800-824-2910.

A bus trip to visit the Longfellow House and Tate House in Portland, sponsored by the Western Mountains Senior College and SAD 44 Adult and Community Education, in association with the Bethel Historical Society on Friday, June 23, needs more participants to fill the bus. The cost is $25 and covers transportation and museum admissions. Participants must be members of Western Mountains Senior College or the Bethel Historical Society.
