Dear Sun Spots: My son’s basketball team, the L.A. Ballers, recently won the State of Maine AAU 13 and under championship for the second consecutive year. This win got them an invitation to the national tournament held in Memphis, Tenn., at the end of June. The boys, as well as parents and family members, have been busy fundraising for the trip.

If any Sun Spots readers would like to help out a fantastic bunch of kids experience the thrill of a lifetime, we would ask that donations be mailed to: L.A. Ballers, 7 Nancy St., Lewiston, ME 04240. In addition, the team has accounts set up for bottle donations at Roopers, Minot Avenue, Auburn, and Sabattus Street, Lewiston. The teams would like to thank everyone for their support. – Kim Walker, Bowdoin.

Dear Sun Spots: I hope you can help. I would like to know the name of the opening blues number on the TV show “Freddie” and whether it is available. – Phil Spellar, No Town.

Answer: Sun Spots has learned that the theme song you are referring to is the blues cut “I’m a Man” by Leslie Johnson, AKA Lazy Lester. The track is available on Lester’s “Harp & Soul” CD, available by special order at Bull Moose Music, 855 Lisbon St., Lewiston, for $13.97 plus tax, or through the Web from Amazon.com for $16.98.

Dear Sun Spots: I noticed in your list of pow wows (from the June 3 Sun Spots column) that the one for veterans was not listed. The veterans’ pow wow is at the VA center in Togus, June 24 and 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There will be a Morning Star Wolf book signing, vendors, dancers, crafts and drumming. It is intertribal and a special invitation is issued to all veterans and their families. For more information contact Carl at 215-8840 or e-mail QMSarge2000@yahoo.com. – Jane Kimball, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: I am doing research on old schools here in Litchfield and was wondering if anyone would know of an old brick school building that was moved to Lewiston from Litchfield and turned into a house. If anyone know anything, please contact the column. In addition, if there are any Cub Scouts or Boy Scout groups that need a project to work on or are available to work on projects, let me know. My e-mail is bottlehunter@adelphia.net. Please include Cub Scouts in the subject line. Thanks. – No Name, No Town.
