YORK – Lucille S. Cole, 78, of Cole Street in Eliot, died on June 11, at York Hospital after a period of failing health.

She was born in Auburn on July 10, 1927, a daughter of William and Alma (Wallingford) Skinner. She attended local schools graduating from Edward Little High School. She graduated from Normal School before coming to Eliot High School, where she taught for a time.

She met and married her husband David Cole and together they lived in the Wm. Fogg home in Eliot. After her time teaching, she and David settled in what would become their home for the next 50 years on the banks of the Piscataqua River on Cole Street.

She was employed by the federal government in the Department of Conservation in Durham for 15 years until her office moved to Concord and she took a position in NRRO at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where she served as administrative assistant for the next 20 years.

She enjoyed many evenings with her husband and family on the front lawn enjoying the water traffic on the river. She enjoyed knitting and gardening. Her daughter and son-in-law brought her much joy including welcoming her into their home as her health failed, this allowed her a closeness with her beloved grandchildren and great-randchildren that she cherished.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Ronald Millett of Kittery; grandchildren, Ronnie D. Millett of New York City, Lauren and her husband, Chris Tice, of Kittery and Jonathan, Jennifer and Colby Millett of Kittery; her great-grandchildren, Ashley and Emma Tice; as well as many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law.

She was predeceased by her son, William; and her brother, Donald.
