PARIS – The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club of South Paris held election of officers recently. All officers were re-elected for another term.

They are: Eleanor and Bob Herrick, co-presidents; Bob and Cathy Thorpe of Auburn, co-vice presidents; Chandler Wright of Greenwood, secretary; and Judy Thompson of Waterford, treasurer. John Thompson of Waterford will continue as club caller.

Directors appointed by the president are Sue and Dwight Corning of South Paris, Jim and Jean Kroitzsh of Hebron and Esther and Erland Tucker of Poland. Also appointed were Julie Deans of Hebron, host/hostess co-ordinator, and Esther Tucker, publicity.

The Swingin’ Bears club is one of about 15 clubs in Maine. It has been active in the South Paris area for more than 40 years and has always held monthly dances of square dancing and round dancing on the second Saturday of each month.

Every September a beginners’ class is offered through adult education at the Oxford Hills Middle School as well as workshops for more experienced dancers that are held every Wednesday evening while school is in session.

The club draws those interested in square dancing from many communities within reasonable traveling distance.

A “June is Bustin’ Out All Over” dance held from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, June 10, at the Oxford Hills Middle School, Pine Street. Scott Williams of Auburn will call mainstream and plus for the square dancing. Carol Stewart of Augusta will cue the round dancing. Refreshments will be served at intermission. Nondancers are welcome.
