PARIS – This is the summer for area middle school teens to “Catch the Beat at Your Local Library.” Seven Oxford Hills libraries will offer a reading program June 23 to Aug. 16 for teens entering seventh, eighth and ninth grades in the fall. Besides reading books and attending events, the program will offer reading rewards based on the accelerated reader program used in the middle school.

Area libraries collaborating to sponsor the program are Freeland Holmes Library in Oxford, Harrison Village Library, Norway Memorial Library, Oxford Hills Middle School Library, Paris Public Library, Waterford Library and West Paris Library.

Teens may register for the program at the kick-off dance from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 23, at the middle school. Those who register that night will receive a Sea Dogs ticket voucher. The dance will cost $2 and refreshments will be sold. All proceeds will go to the program. Those who cannot attend the dance may register at their local library.

An Ice Cream Dessert will be held for teens registered in the program from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Norway Memorial Library. The Downtown Summer Festival will host a Stream Reggae Concert from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Fare Share parking lot in Norway that same evening. This free concert is not a Teen SRP-sponsored event.

The teen program will wrap up on Wednesday, Aug. 16, with a movie, refreshments and drawings for the chance prizes and for the grand prize. The time and place will be announced.

Reading levels include Super Reader (15 AR pts), Star Reader (30 AR pts), Classic Reader (45 AR pts), and Honors Reader (60 AR pts). Prizes for reaching each level include pizza coupons, recordable CDs, song downloads and book certificates.

Teens who complete the star, classic and honors levels may also enter a chance to win another prize. All readers who earn more than 75 AR pts will get a chance to win the grand prize.
