LEEDS – Dr. Larry Catlett of Occupational Medical Consulting presented OMC’s wellness approach at Anthem of Virginia/Wellness Councils of America’s 2006 health care symposium held in Richmond, Va., in early May.

Catlett, Cianbro’s corporate medical director and the director of occupational health at Franklin Memorial Hospital, led a seminar directed at helping attendees from all over the state build a business case for wellness, develop strategic, business related wellness program plans, garner senior management support for their efforts, establish work-site wellness teams, gather data and report outcomes, plan appropriate interventions and begin the internal cultural changes that create and sustain supportive environments for wellness in the workplace.

He also presented details of Cianbro Corp.’s on-site wellness program, developed in conjunction with OMC, as a model for a successful intervention that has both reduced at-risk health behaviors and held costs in check. Cianbro’s program, which includes employees and spouses, has been awarded the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine’s (a physician specialty group) Corporate Health Achievement Award and WELCOA’s Gold and Platinum awards.

OMC, an occupational medicine and corporate wellness consultant since 1996, provides wellness programs for several Maine businesses, including Cianbro Corp. Visit OMC at www.omcwellness.com or by phone (207) 524-2410.
