BETHEL – Fiddlers of all ages are invited to participate in an old-time fiddlers contest on July 15 as part of Mollyockett Day, an annual community event honoring the legend of Princess Mollyockett.

The celebration, sponsored by the Mahoosuc Arts Council, will also include a parade, road race, duck race, arts and crafts, entertainment, food, a frog-jumping contest and fireworks at dusk.

The 10th annual contest will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the bandstand on the Bethel Common. Registration will be from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

More than $700 in cash prizes will be awarded in four divisions: Open, open to all fiddlers; Senior, 60 years and older and not competing in the open division; Junior, age 18 and under; and age 12 and under. Old-time, traditional rules will prevail.

Each contestant must play a waltz, a tune of choice and a hoedown. The fiddler’s ability to produce a toe-tapping and dancing feeling is given strong consideration. The contest will be adjudicated by the North American Fiddle Judges Association.
