MEREDITH, N.H. (AP) – Police say a woman was grabbed by a man along a secluded hiking trail this week in what police called an attempted abduction.

The 18-year-old Laconia woman was walking alone on a trail in Waukewan Highlands Community Park on Monday when the man startled her.

“He grabbed her by the waist, made some sexual references, and she was able to escape,” Officer Bart Merrill of the Meredith Police Department said.

Police are investigating. In the meantime, they advised hikers to pair up on the trails and they plan to release a sketch of the suspect today.
