Nathan P. Douglass of Auburn graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., on June 9. Douglass received two separate degrees. He received a bachelor of science degree from the Department of Engineering with a major in chemical and biological engineering and a minor in biomedical engineering. He also received a bachelor of science degree in biology from the Department of Science.

Douglass worked as an undergraduate research assistant during the academic year and during the summer for the MIT Biological Engineering Department, where he participated in a project to create three-dimensional scaffolds to facilitate osteogenic progenitor cell attachment, proliferation, migration and differentiation within the scaffolds.

Douglass also worked as an undergraduate research assistant and as a teaching assistant in the Chemical Engineering Department, where he assisted in studying the growth characteristics and lytic efficiency of an E.coli strain of bacteria in stirred-tank bio reactors at General Hospital and as a paid research assistant at Transkaryotic Therapies Inc., a bio technical company in Cambridge, where he assisted in the evaluation of biophysical and biochemical properties of protein products in Phase II/III trials leading to the development of drugs for the treatment of Hunter’s Syndrome and Gaucher’s Disease.

Douglass was also active with Big Brothers of Massachusetts and held the positions of house manager, treasurer and president of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

Douglass is the son of Paul and Neria Douglas of Auburn and the grandson of Roland H. Douglass of Auburn, James Ryder of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Neria Ryder to Tempe, Ariz.

Lisa Leblanc, a third-year student at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester, receiving a 3.8 grade point average. She is a graduate of Edward Little High School and is a business management student at the college. She is the daughter of Elizabeth Leblanc of Auburn and John Paul Leblanc of Minot.

Stanley Joseph Dumont graduated from the University of Maine, Orono, with a bachelor of science degree in business administration with a concentration in marketing and minor in military science and leadership.

He is the son of Stanley Dumont of Greene and Valerie Chadwick of Augusta.
