ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Jorge Cantu and Aubrey Huff homered and drove in three runs apiece Sunday, helping the Tampa Bay Devil Rays rally from a five-run deficit to beat the New York Yankees 6-5.

Cantu’s two-run homer off Ron Villone erased a 5-3 New York lead in the fifth inning. Cantu broke the tie in the seventh when he singled after Rocco Baldelli doubled and Scott Proctor (2-2) walked Huff intentionally.

Baldelli set the stage for Cantu’s big hit with a perfect throw from center field in the seventh to cut down Melky Cabrera trying to score from second base on Bernie Williams’ two-out single off Tim Corcoran (4-0).

Brian Meadows pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

The Yankees took a 5-0 lead on Jason Giambi’s 11th career grand slam and an error that allowed a fifth run to score against Tampa Bay starter Casey Fossum in the third. New York was denied a sweep of the three-game series.

It was a major league-high 18th time the Yankees have scored five or more runs in an inning this season.

Orioles 5, Indians 4

CLEVELAND – Corey Patterson scored on a passed ball in the eighth inning and Baltimore rallied to beat Cleveland in a mistake-filled game.

The Orioles, who trailed by three runs, tied the game on two wild pitches an inning earlier.

Baltimore reliever Kurt Birkins (4-1) pitched two-thirds of inning, allowing a hit and striking out one. Chris Ray went 1 2-3 innings for his 22nd save.

Indians starter Jake Westbrook retired 12 of 18 on groundouts. He went six innings, giving up four runs and seven hits.

Kevin Millar, the last batter Westbrook faced, walked and scored on two wild pitches from Rafael Perez to make it 4-4 in the seventh.

Fausto Carmona (1-3) went 1 1-3 innings, giving up two hits striking out one. The Indians have their worst record at the break (40-47) since 2003.

Rangers 5, Twins 2

ARLINGTON, Texas – Mark Teixeira and Gary Matthews Jr. hit two-run homers off All-Star left-hander Johan Santana and Texas defeated Minnesota.

Teixeira’s first homer in 13 games put the Rangers up 3-2 in the sixth. Matthews connected an inning later. It was the first time in 40 starts – since June 2, 2005, against Cleveland – that Santana allowed more than one homer in a game.

Santana (9-5) struck out seven, including five of the first six batters he faced, and walked one in seven innings. He lost his first decision in 10 starts.

Rick Bauer (3-1), the second of five Texas pitchers, struck out two in a perfect inning. Akinori Otsuka pitched the ninth for his 17th save.

Blue Jays 11, Royals 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Roy Halladay became the majors’ first 12-game winner, Aaron Hill had four hits for the second consecutive game and Toronto beat Kansas City.

Troy Glaus, Eric Hinske and Bengie Molina homered for the Blue Jays, who finished with 16 hits. John McDonald went 3-for-4 and scored two runs.

Halladay (12-2), who has won 11 of 12 decisions since an April 9 loss, held the Royals to one run and four hits in seven innings. The All-Star right-hander struck out six, walked one and lowered his ERA to 2.92. He allowed just one run and 10 hits in 14 2-3 innings in wins over Texas and Kansas City.

Hill, who has raised his average 22 points from .275 to .297 with three straight multihit games, had hits in six consecutive at-bats before Emil Brown made a diving catch in right field to rob him in the eighth.

Kansas City’s Jimmy Gobble (3-2) was pulled after 3 1-3 innings.

Mariners 3, Tigers 2

SEATTLE – Gil Meche held Detroit to four hits in seven innings and Yuniesky Betancourt’s elusive single drove in the go-ahead run and snapped Seattle’s six game losing streak.

Meche (8-4) was helped by a two-run homer by seldom-used catcher Rene Rivera, and by Eduardo Perez, who had two hits and scored the go-ahead run in his first start since coming to Seattle on June 30.

J.J. Putz finished the ninth for his 16th save as the Mariners ended their longest home losing streak in six years.

Detroit lost for the sixth time in 27 games but entered the All-Star break with baseball’s best record. The Tigers are in first place at the unofficial midpoint of the season for the first time since 1988.

Nate Robertson (8-5) lost for the third time in four starts. He allowed nine hits and a walk, and struck out five in his first complete game of the season.

Angels 4, Athletics 2

OAKLAND, Calif. – Kendry Morales hit a go-ahead, two-run triple to help Los Angeles’ Ervin Santana win his sixth straight decision.

The Angels wrapped up a 6-1 road swing heading into the All-Star break for only their second winning trip this season. This trip included a three-game sweep at Seattle, another first for Los Angeles, followed by three wins in a four-game series against first-place Oakland.

Jose Molina hit a two-out solo home run for the Angels in the second, just the second homer of the year for the catcher. Los Angeles won for the eighth time in nine games to move within two games of first place in the AL West for the first time since May 1.

Santana (10-4) pitched seven strong innings to improve to 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA in five career starts against the A’s. Francisco Rodriguez recorded the final three outs for his 21st save.

Dan Haren (6-7) struggled through six innings and watched his winless stretch reach five starts.
