LEWISTON – Anyone who would like to participate in the Lewiston Junior High School football program this season is asked to come to a team meeting behind the school this Saturday, July 15 at 2 p.m. Rain date is Sunday at 2 p.m.

There will be an in-house punt, pass and kick competition held along with the meeting, as well as a contest for the longest drive block. It is a chance for players to come meet the coaches and have some fun. There is no charge for the competition.

Central Maine Football camp still accepting applications

LEWISTON – The Central Maine Football Camp at Bates College continues to accept applications for its two upcoming sessions. Session One for players entering grades 3 to 8 begins Sunday, July 16 and concludes Thursday, July 20, with Session Two for grades 9-12 starting Sunday, July 23 and concluding Thursday, July 27. Fishing derby scheduled in Aroostook County

FORT KENT – The town of Fort Kent and the Fort Kent International Muskie Derby Committee, along with many generous sponsors, are pleased to announce that the third-annual derby is scheduled for Saturday, August 12 and Sunday, August 13. The derby begins at 9 a.m. on August 12 at Bee-Jay’s Tavern on Main St. in Fort Kent, and the scales will be open until 7 p.m. on August 13.

Total purse for the derby will be $20,000, with $10,000 going to someone who catches the correctly tagged fish. The three longest fish will be awarded with $3,500, $2,500 and $1,000, respectively. Youth winners will receive savings bonds of $1,000, $750 and $500.

There also will be a $500 prize for the furthest traveled fisherman and a $250 prize for the first muskie caught from the International Bridge connecting Fort Kent and Clair, New Brunswick.
